We're launching our new Getting Started page. This feature helps first-time users to set up their monitoring with AppSignal, as soon as they've signed up. Before we dive in, we'd love to share our beliefs about onboarding.

All developers share these same “first-time” moments:

Many of our customers start monitoring their applications for the first time with AppSignal, or experience new types of issues when scaling an application. A few pointers on how teams should use AppSignal usually goes a long way. This is why we wanted to build recommended actions to help you set up AppSignal into your product.

From the First Time to the Nth Time

AppSignal wants to be there for the solo developer tracking their first errors to the team that scales AppSignal to their Nth cluster. Our all-in-one product is built so you can adopt more advanced features over time. Start with Error Tracking and Uptime Monitoring, and end with hundreds of Custom Metrics and dozens of Triggers.

Even though we built AppSignal to be intuitive and easy to use, it's still hard to discover all of our powerful features and configurations on your own. Even in conversations with developers using AppSignal for 2+ years, we can still point them towards features that give them an "Aha!" moment.

Here's our new getting started page. You'll see your trial information and a set of suggested configurations. You can choose to skip any of the items and still access them in the list of skipped/completed items below.

Not Getting In Your Way

We don't want onboarding features to stand between you and your current debugging challenges. Hiding this page is easy: simply click the "Hide this page" button. When you want to take another look at the page, toggle it on again from your user menu at the top right.

The getting started screen appears inside each of your monitored apps. Hiding it once hides it from all of your applications.

Housekeeping at AppSignal

This feature isn't going to revolutionize the way you monitor your applications. It's more housekeeping. Writing blog posts about these quality-of-life features feels awkward, so we try to share our thinking behind a feature like this.
